Salary: This position offers a salary range of $51,580 - $72,159, with potential for advancement up to $79,673, based on longevity and increased responsibilities. Initial salary offers are determined by qualifications, experience, equity, and available budget, and will not exceed $72,159.

DESCRIPTION: The Attorney General is the chief legal officer of the State of Maryland. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) has the general charge, supervision, and direction of the State's legal business, acting as legal advisors and representatives of the major agencies, various boards, commissions, officials, and institutions of State Government. The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland's 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
The Office of the Attorney General is seeking a Paralegal in the Contract Litigation Unit within the Civil Litigation Division to provide direct support to Assistant Attorney Generals in a fast-paced environment within the Contract Litigation Unit comprised of a dedicated team of 16, including 11 attorneys, Administrative Officer, two Paralegals, Management Associate, and a Legal Secretary.
The Contract Litigation Unit is primarily responsible for representation of State agencies in litigation arising out of State contracts, including but not limited to, the Maryland Departments of General Services and Transportation, the University of Maryland System and Morgan State University. The Unit represents these agencies before the Maryland State Board of Contract Appeals and in the courts in disputes regarding the formation (protests) and performance of State contracts (claims). Its responsibilities include defending against contractor claims and raising claims affirmatively against State contractors. The Unit's attorneys provide representation at trial and through appellate review. The Unit attorneys frequently consult with other State lawyers with respect to a variety of issues that arise under the State's General Procurement Law.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.
Experience: Three years of experience as a legal assistant or legal secretary performing legal research or preparing legal documents on behalf of an attorney.
