The OAG also protects the public by civil enforcement of antitrust, civil rights, consumer protection, and securities laws and regulations and by the prosecution of organized crime, Medicaid fraud, environmental crimes, insurance fraud, state tax evasion, and other statutorily assigned matters. As Maryland's 47th Attorney General, Anthony G. Brown leads the Office with a critical focus on equity, justice, and fairness.
The OAG is seeking an experienced litigator to represent the Maryland Environmental Service (MES). MES is a unique, mission-driven state agency, established as a not-for-profit business unit of the State that delivers essential services in water supply, wastewater treatment, solid waste disposal, dredge material management, and energy management. MES provides multi-disciplinary environmental compliance services to enhance and protect the environment through innovative solutions to the region's most complex environmental challenges. Additional information can be obtained on the MES website at www.menv.com.
The OAG unit representing MES consists of four Assistant Attorneys General and one Paralegal who are collaborative, team players, adaptable, and flexible. Success in this role depends not only on legal expertise but also on the ability to build strong working relationships with the team and the client, where mutual support, open communication, and shared problem-solving are essential. If you are enthusiastic about public service and committed to issues related to the environment, we encourage you to apply for this position!
This is an opportunity to step into a dynamic role where no two days are the same! As an Assistant Attorney General (AAG) for MES, you would join a small, experienced team to provide representation to a state agency that is an innovative and leading-edge solver of environmental problems and a responsible and successful manager of environmental operations. You'll provide legal counsel across a wide spectrum of issues - from environmental compliance and worker safety to procurement, contracts, torts, human resources, intellectual property, public utilities, and real property. There are frequent opportunities to collaborate and offer legal advice to clients on business proposals, contracts, and project management issues. AAGs in the unit are responsible for advising MES on all aspects of its mission and operations, with additional legal matters or responsibilities assigned as appropriate. Whether you're navigating complex litigation, advising on business transactions, or helping the client work through issues on their projects, you'll play an important role in supporting and advancing MES's mission to protect and enhance Maryland's environment.
