Volunteer Opportunities
Do you like to help people? Are you interested in experiencing the workings of a law enforcement agency? Do you live in the Baltimore or Largo area? Then come volunteer in the Attorney General's Consumer Protection Division.

Our volunteers provide an invaluable service to Maryland consumers. They respond to consumer inquiries on the telephone hotline, and mediate consumer complaints against businesses and health care providers. They settle disputes in sales, repairs, debt collection, defective products, false advertising, health spas, housing and medical bills. Volunteers receive training in mediation and learn valuable skills.

The Division's Mediation Unit is open weekdays between 8:00 and 5:00, and volunteers are asked to work 10 hours per week. They are reimbursed at the rate of $20 stipend per day. The Consumer Protection Division is located in a convenient downtown Baltimore location, near the Light Rail and Metro, museums, shops, restaurants and other attractions. We also have volunteers working in our Prince Georges County office in Largo.  Free parking is offered to volunteers at both locations.

​Internships
The Consumer Protection Division offers college and law school students a variety of internship opportunities. Interns are trained in local, state and federal consumer protection laws, gain valuable conflict resolution skills and experience firsthand the workings of a state law enforcement agency.

• Mediation Interns mediate complaints about most goods and services, credit and housing, and provide consumer tips and legal information via our telephone hotline.
  
  
• Health Advocacy Interns mediate consumer complaints against health care providers and insurers, respond to consumer inquiries via our telephone hotline and research current health policy and legislative issues.

Applicants should have good verbal and written communication skills and an interest in dispute resolution, consumer advocacy, governmental affairs or health policy. All majors will be considered. A minimum of 10 hours per week is required. See your career center, internship coordinator or sponsoring professor for academic credit approval.
